Actually, I can see why, IBM has been sitting on it's ass for years now. The current top of the line PowerPC processors hits 2.7 GHZ, while the current Intel or AMD Processors are around 3.8 GHz. It doesn't seem like much, but people do look at the numbers. Personally, I would pit a G5 against anything Intel could throw at it with any doubts. However, the clock speed show that someone in IMB's R&D dept. is sleeping at the wheel. ( An Aside: Clock speed is NOT the end all and be all in the CPU speed race. I know that and most people in field know this too. AMD has even stopped naming thier processors after the clock speed because the number makes the processor seems slower than it actaully is. However it is hard to explain to someone how a 2.5 Ghz processor might work faster than a 3.5 Ghz processor.) I would have like to see AMD start making chips for Apple, but what do I know. The first Intel Macs should be available in Mid-2006.
