Ok, I'm sad now. One of my icons from Star Trek is gone. James Doohan died early this morning at 85. It's a good age, long enough for a family and a life.
I've watch these people since I was 4 years old. I especial like Spock, Scott and Kirk. I missed DeForrest Kelly when he died, but I figured it was a matter of time. It's still hurts when the clock keeps running and I supect in the next 5 to 10 years we will see more of the original crew leave us.
Being an actor is a mixed blessing. I'm sure Mr. Doohan got tried of hearing, "Beam me up" and groaned hearing Jim "Ace Ventura" Carrey imitate him. But, to be remmeber by millions of people and to have people see you in your prime for as long as the media last. I just started showing my kids John Wayne movies, now I have to do the original "Trek".
Which begs the question. Would you rather have a one hit wonder "mega movie" and fade to obcurity actor or be the well know actor with a life long career?
