Letters from Home

I shipped a Care package to a soldier I know in Iraq. Normally, I send such thing to a general pool, but in this case I know the person personally from TKD. Just got it into the mail on Friday. My understanding is the package will get there in about one week, but stay in customs quarantine for another 3 to 4 weeks. Good thing I didn’t bake brownies. I’ll leave the brownies to his girlfriend. I just sent the basic: A couple of bottles of Jack Daniels, some Porn magazines, nylons stocking to woo some of the female GI’s, and a carton of Marlboros.

Actually, I sent him 1 soccer ball, 2 Nerf footballs, 3 sweat bans, and 2 Game Cube Controllers. Desert Warfare is tough on those Super Mario Controllers. Basically, just stuff he can trade and take the edge off of the boredom during the downtime.

I only put my first initial and last name on the return address so the other members of his unit don’t think he getting stuff for some strange guy. The last thing I want is him getting killed, because he was getting harassed by his buddies and not paying attention to the war around him.
