Today, I light a candle and it burns quietly in the background while I teach my course and grade my papers. It reminds me not to be so abrasive, have more patient, and try to be a little more understanding of my students.

Fourteen years ago, It was a cold afternoon with a mixing of rain turning to snow. I was still a part-time grad student, but taking an science education course that day instead of th e usual graduate physics courses. In Van Alllen Hall, the Physics building, Gang Lu shot and killed 4 people: Dwight Nicholson, Chris Goertz, Bob Smith, and Lin-Hua Shan. Later, he left the building and killed Ann Rhodes and critically wounded Minya Sonya Sioson.
